For the launch of the new tactical shooter ‘Ghost Recon Alpha’, videogame developer Ubisoft eschewed the traditional gameplay/pre-rendered trailers and instead have created a 25-minute prequel short film with Hollywood visuals and a gripping, adult storyline. Enlisted Oscar-winning directors Herve de Crecy and Francois Alaux (RSA/Little Minx) were tasked with the tough job of translating a popular game series to screen without incurring the dreaded fanboy rage. Luckily the film is an excellent slice of brutal actioneer that is certain to gain plaudits around the net.
We chatted with the duo about the shoot, the concept and the ever-fuzzy line between advertising and entertainment.
