Right, as the film above so capably displays, The Reel’s website allows you to search, view, download and snuffle away any spots from our 50,000+ archive at will. As the site has just had a full digital remodelling (both inside and out), we thought it best to go through some of the key features set to make your creative life a little easier:
SEARCH
We know what you’re here for – they look like ads, they sound like ads and they taste like ads. They’re ads. We also know that you want to find the work you’re looking for without wanting to punch your monitor right up the diodes, so we’ve made the search easy.
Quick search – Located about the results panel on the right-hand side is our Quick Search box. Whatever you’re searching for (credits, keywords, titles), this handy box will dig it up and hastly plant it before your eyes.
Advance Search – Sometimes you know exactly what you want, and the Advance Search is just the girl to get it for you. Search by airdate, territory, credit, style, category or any combination of the lot and your results will pop into the right-hand panel.
VIEW
Right, you’ve found the spot you were after, now it’s time to watch it. As you will see, the viewing window for our content is now a pretty mighty 640x360 pixels, and that’s expandable to full-screen by clicking on the screen icon in the bottom corner. Enjoyed it? Good. Now it’s time to see who made it. Displayed under every spot in our database are full creative credits. If you want to see what else the agency/production company/director/etc has done just click on their name and the results will appear by magic in that handy right-hand panel! Told you it was simple.
Want a copy for keeps? Click on the download link and for a single credit you can have a tasty h264 copy.
Want to tell people what you think? Now you can rate and comment on any spot or blog-post on the site. Just remember, you’re name will be listed over the comment, so don’t say anything your mother would be ashamed of!
PLAYLISTS / CHANNELS
Sometime you want to keep a list of creative without having to store it in that hefty brainbox of yours. Well that’s what our Playlist function is for! By clicking on the ‘Add to Playlist’ button you can pop a spot in any playlist you specify. Stick as many spots as you want in a playlist for later viewing, and set up as many playlists as you fancy. Our server space is yours to abuse!
But that’s not all. Want to create a company showreel for our other users to marvel at? Simply create a playlist and hit the ‘Make Public’ button. The list will then be displayed in the ‘Shared Playlist’ tab of the ‘Playlist’ section. What’s more, if you’ve spotted a list you like the look of you can locate it with ease on subsequent visits by clicking on the ‘Subscribe’ button.
Our ‘Channels’ panel works in much the same way, except this little lot of lists is created by our esteemed editorial team. Here you can check out past Issues, Regular Features, our hyper talented Ones To Watch and even check out our very own pop-picking hitlist with Most Popular. All of these can be subscribed to too, so get your name on the list.
BLOG
Sometimes The Reel gets a story so big, so monumentous, it can’t fit in a little ad description box … and sometimes we really want to let you know that someone got a job somewhere doing something. Well that’s where our blog comes in. Regularly updated with interviews, features and news, The Reel Blog is a delicious, archived cornucopia of AdLand factoids and opinions. You can even comment on it! Lovely.
