ADDICTIVE TV GO FOOTY MAD FOR FIVE

Our favourite mash-up masters Addictive TV have applied their audio-visual skills to a brand new promo for UK TV channel FIVE. In a style never tried before with football on television, The channel asked the Addictives to create short broadcast promos for the channel's coverage of the first ever season of the newly re-branded Europa League football championship, previously known as the UEFA Cup.

Audio/visually sampling and remixing recent UEFA competition matches, the guys have just finished cutting beats and tunes from football kicks, cheering crowds and referee's whistles for the new sample-based promos. 'We were asked to make two versions of the football stings by FIVE', explains Addictive TV's creative head Graham Daniels, 'One was a 17 second 'content burst', and the second was for a longer version which could also run on TV or be used online. Having seen our previous work with both films and sports, they wanted to try out a slightly more adventurous approach to their promos and make them completely audiovisual in nature. Although we've done 30 second TV ads before, we're more often commissioned for much longer web virals, so working to such an ultra short format as 17 seconds at first put us rather outside our normal comfort zone. But it was a good challenge to be so precise compositionally, and we're really happy with the way sampled shots and sounds from normal match coverage could be made to work so cohesively and musically.'

The new idents were on air and online from September 17th. Check out more Addictive work here.

    THE RUBBER STAMP OF APPROVAL

A new Animation Production Company has opened it’s doors in the heart of London’s Covent Garden. Rubber, founded by Jules Pye and Lee Bryan, specialise in animation, mixed media and visual effects.

Here a bit of background - Jules Pye started her career in Los Angeles as a PA on Die Hard 2. On moving back to London she trained as an animation Producer with Uli Meyer Studios where she worked on several animated features, including Space Jam & Lost in Space. The last several years Jules worked as an In House Producer at Bermuda Shorts where she met Lee Bryan.

Lee started out in the music industry as a recording artist in the late nineties. Since then he has worked at a variety of production companies in the past several years, producing at Amber Music London and then setting up his own repping company, representing a music production company, an animation house and a consumer PR agency. In 2009 Jules & Lee decided to set up their own animation house, Rubber Studios.

Speaking of the studios, Lee Ryan says: ‘We offer up some of the most creative minds in design and animation and are passionate about making exciting, cutting edge and memorable work representing a collection of directors whose work is diverse and outstanding, covering every discipline of animation for the commercial world.‘

Rubber is represented in the US by Liz Laine Reps, and in Japan and Asia, by Clarity Production. To learn more, visit http://www.rubberstudios.com

    PSYOP EMMY IT UP

Snazzo visual stylists Psyop won an Emmy last Saturday for their Coca Cola “Heist” spot via Wieden+Kennedy, Portland.

Todd Mueller & Kylie Matulick – Psyop Founders & Creative Directors – had this to say about the night:

'About a quarter of the way through the awards presentation they announced the nominees of the best commercial category and Todd and l just looked at each other and went pale! It was the big moment! But after playing the first spot they quickly moved on to the next category and we realized that they were going to pepper the show with the nominated commercials and proceed to torture us for the next 4 hours! What we saw though were 7 other spots that were all amazingly funny and entertaining. By the time they opened the announcement card we just felt great to have been nominated with this awesome group knowing that there was no way in hell we'd win out over Porn, a Scorsese-selling time share, and an alien Alec Baldwin......and then we heard "Coke.....Heist". Suffice to say the rest of the evening was like floating on a cloud. It felt great to get that kind of recognition and it's a wonderful accolade for all the talented artists who work their asses off at PSYOP to make something amazing.'

    Nice one!!

PHOTOPLAY-TIME FOR THE KAMEN BROTHERS AND HUSSEIN ALICAJIC

Aussie production company Photoplay have accepted two new directors to their impressive fold. Matt Kamen and his producer-brother Chris (aka The Kamen Brothers) have moved across from The Guild of Commercial Filmmakers and bring their comedic sensibilities and all round good vibes to Photoplay.

Husein Alicajic, previously with Arithmetic, brings a unique visual style and is a welcome addition to their ranks. Husein produced an award-winning campaign for Foxtel which picked up a gold Promax last year, and has just finished post on a gorgeous visual spot for the Sydney Dance Company filmed within the symmetrical architecture of the Deutsche Bank building.
